I've posted about Wovo products on Etsy previously, This post from my companion blog in 2018 includes some brand history for Wovo, This post from October 2019 features a selection fake Vintage listings for Wovo active at that time. Since then, some items have been sold (Etsygirls adore over-priced used contemporary products priced as if they were older collectibles), some were de-activated by the sellers, and some are still available in the sellers' Etsy shops.
Here's a look at the current Wovo items pretending to be Vintage on Etsy.
SwedeFinds listed this pair of Wovo acrylic snack trays just days ago. They're pretending to be "Vintage from before 2000", as well as "Mid Century Modern". The seller also mistakenly says they are made of "melamine", bless their empty little head. Priced at $59 for the pair, which should make this item irresistible to an Etsygirl! The market price for most Wovo items is in the $10-15 range, including those that are sold with their original boxes. In the Description, the seller tells us their "re-search" says they were made for Target "around 2001". Yeah, sure.
To their Wovo blue acrylic bow twist snack tray first listed in November 2019, fake Vintage seller pnpvintagegeneral has added a second listing for another unit, also pretending to be "Danish" and "Vintage from before 2000". One is priced at $17.95, and the other is listed for $18.00, The seller's Description claims these trays are "highly desired"...which is why the first one is still unsold after about 8 months on Etsy! Same photo used for both listings, which appeared in my Fall 2019 post here. UPDATE AUGUST 2: the piece in the original listing has sold! But the second listing for an identical piece priced at $18 is still available for anyone who wants to pay the Etsy Fake Vintage Reseller Stupid Tax.
AUGUST 02: More Wovo items have been listed since this was first posted. No surprise because, on Etsy, the vintage most likely to sell isn't.
Listed on May 09, 2020 by ColoradoCollectionUS is this red acrylic Wovo twist bow snack server listed as a "Crafting Supply". Which it is not. Priced at $19.96 (on sale from $24.95), the mendacious seller went into great detail in the Description about the designer and the style, but omitted the design date (2002, with production being a bit later). If you purchase this item at the listed price -- even the sale price! -- you can feel secure in your stupidity. The Description includes this statement:
In good vintage condition with scratches.
Which is absurd because there is no such thing as "vintage condition". Vintage items can be flawless (collectors call them "mint"), while newer products can show damage. As this item apparently does. This is a damaged piece of contemporary inexpensive tableware, mass manufactured after 2002 in China. Worth a couple of dollars, if you love it that much. Servers like this can often be found with the original boxes on eBay -- in much better condition -- for less. CAVEAT EMPTOR
Etsy shop WeirdMary listed this Wovo black melamine snack tray on July 10. It's pretending to be "Vintage from before 2000", but readers of my blogs know that Wovo introduced melamine items in 2003. But we can't expect a seller on mendacious Etsy to do the right thing, and simply wrap this item in a soft cloth and store it for a few years until you can honestly claim it is at least 20 years old.
Will add more Wovo items as they are listed,.
